Advice/Ideas with Playroom Redo Needed!

We started the renovation w/the kids playroom. I wasn't planning on putting up any pics until we were done. But there are sooo many talented fellow bloggers out there that I am dying to know what you would do w/this space! I originally was going to paint this room a sage green on top & cream on bottom but the kids didn't like that idea very much. Lauren was like "we need to have some FUN colors down here!" So Mickey & I decided to give them a fun, bright playroom! Now anyone who knows me, knows I'm not a fan of pink at all! But when I saw these 2 colors on the pamphlet next to each other they called my name. Pink for the girls & blue for the boys! We also are planning on carpeting down there. We hemmed & hawed whether or not to do this or the snap together wood floors, but decided it would be safer w/carpet when it comes to anyone falling it & it will probably be warmer as well. I want to know what kind of storage would you use? We have lots of books, toys & board games! Where would you look to find things like toy boxes, bookshelves & other storage units?

Over in this corner is where the cable is so I figured we would put the t.v. here. Because of the pole it would be impossible for a couch to fit so should I use a loveseat or do something like beanbag chairs?

This little shelf thingy I painted yellow tonight (this pic was taken obviously before). What should I use it for?

Don't mind the mess! Hubby's getting rid of that tomorrow.

Ok what do you think of the colors? And PLEASE give me any ideas/advice you come up with or have!! I would greatly appreciate it! Can't wait to see what you all come up with!

  1. Could you stack games and/or DVD's in there? I would probably try to use it for some type of storage.

I would go with a love seat. PB Teen has some cute square cubes that my daughter has in her room. They are better than beanbags and they have been durable. We bought ours on sale.

I think your colors are great for a playroom. I bet your kids love it!

  2. OK, Allison- I don't know if you've seen this blog, but it's the coolest playroom ever! I only wish I had kids so I could do this! Check it out!

Another great idea: My niece did this for her playroom- it's on my blog:

  3. Fun colors! I'd probably use that recessed shelf area as an art showcase. I'd find a couple of frames at the dollar store, spray them a bright color, and use it as a rotating display of the children's artwork. Let the kids know that you'll be changing them out monthly and that everyone will get a turn to have their artwork on display.

I think most of the storage should be accessible to the kids. It makes it easier for them to grab, and more importantly, put away their toys and games.

Can't wait to see what you do.

  4. I think they colors are very cute and fun. I agree that carpet is probably warmest and most comfortable for kids playing in there. I would try to add some fun white cabinets and/or cubes to store toys. If you have an Ikea nearby, they have very afforable storage solutions.
I'm eager to see how this room turns out.

Thanks so much for coming by my blog. I'm following you now too.

    Have a great day.

  5. I agree with going to Ikea for a storage system. I would get a few Expedit shelving systems along the wall with baskets for the kids to put there toys in.

  6. How cool Allison. The possibilities are endless here. I would make it very personal to them and what they like. Have some clothes lines that display their art work..perhaps a chalk board wall, a cork board...just a lot of fun stuff for them.

  7. I don't know if you are handy with tools - but if you check out www.ana-white.com - her site has a bunch of things you can build yourself. She has some Pottery barn inspired pieces. I could picture the wall lined with some of her pieces.
Thanks for the follow over on my blog - and of course I will follow you back.

  8. What lucky kids, I would have loved a play room like that when I was a kid! Start hitting the thrift stores, you will find tons of shelving units to repaint and restore. Keep the shelves below the chair rail so you don't have to worry about the little darling climbing and tipping them over. I am visiting from Debbie Doos and and I am your newest follower, hope you will stop by for a visit.
